There Was an Old Lady Who Swallowed a Chick

This is a fantastic story to read the week of Easter and end it with this very fun retelling activity!

To make the basket use a plain white lunch sack and fold it over about an inch, reach in with your hands and pull it out and it will get straight again.  It's hard to explain.  You just have to try it. Then keep folding it over til you get the height you want. When they were all making their baskets with paper bags it sounded like a thunderstorm!

I let them decorate them with markers.

For the retelling of the story.  Students put items in their baskets.  For the chick I gave them a peep!  Yummy!

Do you want another fun retelling idea? This is made out of poster board. Make sure you laminate it for durability. Then add a ziplock bag or sheet protector to the back and the students can drop the pieces into the pocket.  Tie a string around the top so they can wear it.
They loved reinacting the old lady eating the items.
Make sure you allow enough time for everyone to try it!
