Koalas and Possums!!

This week we are teaching a unit on Australia.  We will be displaying all our projects at International Night in March.  Each grade had to pick a country.  We are focusing on Mem Fox as the author!  What fun we are having.  I'm hoping to post my Promethean Board unit on TpT soon!
Today we read Possum Magic and colored these cute possums and added facts to the back.  They had a lot of fun with this.

Did you know that possums do not hang by their tails?  I do now!!  I had to hang them anyway!!

We were wishing for snow!

We hardly got any snow in December so we made these adorable snowmen drawings.  Now we have snow and wish it was gone!  Click here to get the directions for this fantastic project.  Thanks for sharing Deep Space Sparkle!

MLK Drawings

My students made MLK drawings last week and I couldn't help but post a few photos.  They make them all so different and cute!  I combined a few ideas from a few bloggers.  I used the drawing directions from kindergartenmonkeybusiness.blogspot.com and then I used a freebie for the speech bubble but I can't remember who it was from.  Instead of a black and white photo that was suggested I just used their class picture.

Lots of cute ideas!

This first one looks like Obama!  Oops!

Wish I had tomorrow off!

In my district we do not get off for Martin Luther King Jr Day.  My husband does however!  I guess he gets a day of peace!  I need this day to recuperate from all the cooking I did this weekend!  I've been following some blogs that have freezer cooking on them so I thought I'd give it a try.  I have a family of 7 so it cost us over $30 just to go to McDonald's!  So I'm hoping this will help me when I am dog tired from teaching and still be able to provide a good meal!

This is what I made:
  • Boiled 3 whole chickens and shredded the meat
  • Made about 35 cups of chicken broth
  • French Toast (put in the freezer for the toaster)
  • Bagged the shredded chicken I didn't use
  • Chicken and Rice Soup
  • Potato Soup (in crockpot)
  • Taco Soup (ready for the crockpot)
  • Chicken Enchiladas (or as my daughter says "chinchillas"!)
  • Lasagna
  • Browned Hamburger
  • Cut up veggies for the crockpot
  • Broccoli Chicken Rice Casserole (we're eating this tonight)!
  • Twiced Baked Potatoes

Add if I get off the couch I'm going to make peanut butter chocolate chip muffins.  My husband asked if we could eat it all now!  :)

Sorry this post doesn't have to do with teaching but I'm off to Pinterest to check out the MLK ideas.  I know I saw a lot out there!  Some of the recipes I did are on there too!

    Versatile Blogger Award!

I haven't checked my email all weekend!  Can't believe I did that! Chrissy from First Grade Found Me award me with the Versatile Blogger Blogger Award.  I found Chrissy's blog when she first started so if she hadn't already received the award I would name her!!

Here’s how the award works. After accepting the Versatile Blogger Award, the blogger must:
    I. Thank the person who gave the award and link back to them in your post.
II. Share 7 things about yourself.
III. Pass this award along to 15 recently discovered blogs.

    Seven Things About Me!

    1.  I have 5 kids who are extremely active and loud right now.  I'm trying to absorb myself into my blog!  :)
    2.  I would love to be an Extreme Couponer!  I was so excited to get my cough drops for free this week!
    3.   I have taken "baby" steps to get healthy!  I joined a gym but only went once this week.  My girlfriend wants me to go to spin but I think she's crazy!  I want to try Zumba.
    4.  My husband and I are high school sweethearts!  Hard to believe we've been together for 25 years!
    5.  I still have 2 baby teeth!  Yep - I'm 41.  Crazy heh?
    6.  I have 3 adorable cats.  Ellie, Copper and Dexter.  Every night, Copper sleeps above my head and Dexter lays his head on my pillow and puts his arm on my shoulder.
    7.  Even though this has been a tough year with my class I can't think of anything else I would do.  I am researching more info on Whole Brain Teaching.  Anyone able to help me out?
